250,000 DKK Donation at General Assembly gives Youth House Kalundborg a head start
The vision of a student-driven house in Kalundborg has taken a significant step towards reality. On February 26, 2025, a founding general assembly was held at Helix Lab, officially establishing Foreningen Ungehus Kalundborg, the association that will support and fundraise for the youth-driven project. The event brought together around 70 participants, including local businesses, educational institutions, as well as the young people who will shape and run the house.
A highlight from the evening was a generous 250,000 DKK donation from the Lucerna Foundation, the youth house in Holbæk, which has served as an inspiration for Kalundborg’s project. The donation provides a strong foundation for renovation efforts in the newly acquired former Juvi Club building, where Youth House Kalundborg will be established.
During the meeting, an 11-member board was elected, ensuring strong representation from both business leaders, municipal stakeholders, and educational institutions. Nanna Blume, Management Consultant at Helix Lab was among the board electees.
The board will play a crucial role in supporting the Main Group, which is the youth-driven team responsible for managing the youth house's day-to-day operations and activities.
Three Helix Lab Fellows are part of the Main Group. One of them, Chetali Sonkusale, believes that the donation has given the group a head start:
“It is obviously a great amount, that we are very thankful for. It will help kickstart the project, since we’ll be able to afford more expensive items and get on with refurbishing the house sooner,” she says.
A Student-Led Space to Strengthen Community Ties
Youth House Kalundborg is set to open in September 2025 as an inclusive space where students, apprentices, and young professionals can meet across educational and professional backgrounds. The house will offer study areas, event spaces, and creative hubs designed by and for young people.
“The youth house is a really good opportunity for young people to engage in various activities, that’s missing in Kalundborg at the moment. In the coming months we’ll start decorating and getting the place ready for opening later this year,” Chetali Sonkusale says.
At Helix Lab, we are proud to support this initiative, which is in line with our mission to strengthen student communities and foster long-term connections between students and Kalundborg.
