What was your motivation for becoming a Helix Lab Fellow?

I wanted to collaborate with industry for my master’s thesis and Helix Lab is great at facilitating this. Working with Unibio makes my thesis seem more relevant than the projects I have previously worked on at university.

Additionally, Helix Lab organises trips to visit the industry in Kalundborg, which further helps me get a better idea of what different companies exist and their operations.

What is the most exciting part of being a Helix Lab Fellow?

It is hard to pick just one thing, but living with a lot of other students who are also writing their thesis makes the stay in Kalundborg much more enjoyable and makes it very easy to establish a social life in Kalundborg.

What perspectives do you see for your future after being a Helix Lab Fellow?

I hope that my stay at Helix Lab will make the transition from studying to working easier than it would have been otherwise. And if I end up working close to Kalundborg, my time as a Helix Lab Fellow means that I already know some people in and around Kalundborg, which would make working here less daunting than it otherwise would have been.

What was your motivation for becoming a Helix fellow?

Since I started my masters I knew I wanted to become a Fellow. I consider this a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the industry, collaborating with very innovative companies in such an interesting place like Kalundborg.

What is the most exciting part of being a Helix Lab Fellow?

I admire how Helix lab connects academia and the industry. As an international student, I find exciting to connect with many talented Fellows, researchers, and professionals from the industry. Having a project with a company allows me to contribute and improve the current process, as well as getting an overview of the challenges that the company faces.

What perspectives do you see for after being a Helix Lab Fellow?

Thanks to this relevant experience, I consider that there is a possibility of getting a position as a process engineer or scientist in Kalundborg. But mostly, I am very excited to see how my project contributes and if it can be implemented in industrial scale.

What was your motivation for becoming a Helix Lab Fellow?

My motivation for becoming a fellow stems from my love for science and organic solutions alongside the tremendous community I was going into and skills I would gain. As a student of ecology and environmental sciences, I have learned a lot about the dynamics of sustainable and well-functioning ecosystems and the opportunity to potentially optimise, but at the least understand, the industrial ecology of ground water in one of the most important pharmaceutical companies in the world, seemed to rich to pass up.

What is the most exciting part of being a Helix Lab Fellow?

Difficult to choose. However, certainly going to the office at Novo Nordisk and working on my thesis in a very high performing team is extremely exciting. The people, the environment and the intellectual challenges keep me on my toes and make me a better person every single day. Beyond that, I love the people in the Helix Lab community - they are are all unique and caring individuals with a passion for bettering the world. There’s truly not a dull moment.

What perspectives do you see for your future after being a Helix Lab Fellow?

After being a Helix Lab Fellow, I hope to have gained a tremendous amount of professional skills both in an office setting and in an advanced laboratory with cutting-edge technology. Frankly, afterwards, I see the world being my oyster, so to speak, having acquired very useful skills/competencies in the context of water treatment (applicable in critical industries), large-scale project management, collaboration, research and development and much more. No doubt I would love to work at Novo Nordisk going forward but regardless I seek to make an impact in the water value chain on a global scale.

What was your motivation for becoming a Helix Lab Fellow?

I wanted to work with biorefining and how it can be implemented in the industry for my master’s thesis. Since it is already a huge topic in the Kalundborg biotech symbiosis I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to come here. It would also allow me to work closer with the industry as you have an industry supervisor and the companies are located close to the Helix Lab.

What is the most exciting part of being a Helix Lab Fellow?

I think the most exciting part so far is to see how the things I have learnt and worked with at AAU is implemented in the industry. It is exciting getting to see large fermentation tanks, downstream operations, waste-water treatment plants etc. in real life compared to just studying them. Also meeting and living with students from other universities with different academic backgrounds has been fun.

What perspectives do you see for your future after being a Helix Lab Fellow?

I am planning on staying in Kalundborg but have not decided exactly what career I want to pursue. I see myself working with biorefining in the future or optimization of fermentation technologies. I might try to pursue an industry PhD, a graduate program or a career in the industry where I can apply my creative thinking and keep learning.
