From Amazing Mushrooms to Life on Mars: Helix Lab Opens Its Doors for Spring Tech Talks

There is a focus on life in the soil, in the cities, and on Mars in this spring’s lecture series.

“Mushrooms are absolutely crucial if we want to save the world and make it a better place—for health, biodiversity, and the climate.”
So says mycologist, professor, entrepreneur, and author Lene Lange, who will visit Helix Lab on February 24 for the first Tech Talk of the spring.

She believes that fungi may hold the key to solving some of today’s biggest challenges in climate, health, and food production.

In her talk, she will give the audience insight into the hidden potential of fungi and explain, among other things, why humans are biologically much more similar to fungi than most people realize. Lene Lange will also share how fungi can play a decisive role in the green transition.

“We underutilize around 50 percent of everything we grow, but with fungi and their enzymes, waste from agriculture, fisheries, and food production can be converted into feed and high-value products. At the same time, the climate-friendly food of the future must be both plant- and fungi-based, because fungi enhance flavor and make climate-friendly food easier to choose,” says Lene Lange.

Discoveries on the Red Planet and the Wine Universe of Røsnæs

The rest of this spring’s Tech Talks at Helix Lab offer lectures ranging from architecture and urban development to space exploration and Danish wine of international class.

Architecture in Kalundborg takes center stage when Simon Sjökvist, lecturer at the Royal Danish Academy in Kalundborg, talks about the city’s architectural and urban planning development.

The audience can also embark on an adventure to the Red Planet when DTU Space presents the close collaboration between DTU and NASA, which has, among other things, likely led to the discovery of traces of life on Mars.

Finally, the spotlight turns to Røsnæs and the world of wine when Qian Janice Wang, associate professor at the University of Copenhagen and Denmark’s only Master of Wine, shares her knowledge about Danish wine and the unique potential of Røsnæs for wine production.

Tech Talks are free and open to everyone. Coffee and cake will be served, and the lectures will be held in English.
