APM Terminals Kalundborg

At APM Terminals Kalundborg, we operate a modern gateway terminal established in 2021 at the newly developed Ny Vesthavn. With a 75,000 m² footprint, we handle approximately 500 container moves across the quay and a similar number of truck gate moves every week. As part of the global APM Terminals network, we are committed to operational excellence, sustainability, and innovation in logistics. We are currently seeking MSc students and university supervisors for collaborative thesis projects that support our ambition to shape the terminal of the future.

Innovation and Sustainability in Terminal Operations

We are continuously working to improve our operations through automation, digitalisation, and decarbonisation. Our ambition is to reduce environmental impact while increasing efficiency and safety across the terminal.

We see great potential in exploring new technologies and smarter logistics solutions, and we invite students to join us in developing and testing ideas that can make a real-world impact.

Project Opportunities

We are open to discussing MSc thesis projects within the following areas:

Automation & Technology

Smarter lifting solutions from inland depots to chassis (minimising manual handling)

Use of cameras and AI in container repair and washing processes

Automation and optimisation of vessel and gate operations

Logistics & Supply Chain

Reducing transport waste for haulage companies and end customers

Enhancing intermodal transport flows (sea, rail, road)

Visualising and analysing logistics flow to identify bottlenecks and opportunities

Projects will primarily take place at our terminal in Kalundborg, with access to operational data and collaboration with our on-site teams.
