Helix Lab is now calling for applications for three fully funded collaborative PhD projects designed to bring Danish universities and industry partners in Kalundborg closer together. The new call aims to foster research projects that combine strong academic excellence with real-world industrial impact. The PhD projects will begin in 2027 and will be fully financed through the Helix Lab PhD Program, covering salary, tuition fees, and some project-related operating costs. “The Helix Lab PhD Program is an essential part of the growing scientific community in Kalundborg, and PhD research will play a crucial role in sustaining long-term research collaborations between industry and academia,” says Anette Birck. Approximately half of the project period will be spent at Helix Lab and the collaborating company in Kalundborg, ensuring close interaction between research and industrial application.

Research with Real-World Impact

The Helix Lab PhD Program is designed to bridge academic research and industrial development. Throughout the project, the PhD student is expected to maintain a strong presence in Kalundborg through activities at Helix Lab and the partner company.

“The present call is an excellent opportunity to expand on the current PhD projects and other research activities in Helix Lab and Kalundborg. Furthermore, Helix Lab PhDs gain a unique perspective on the industry, while they also have the potential to make a significant contribution to the applied research area as a whole,” says Kresten Kromphardt, Scientific Consultant at Helix Lab.

While the university will formally employ the PhD student, the industrial partner will contribute through co-supervision, facilities, data, materials, and other project-relevant resources.
