Tech Talk - The Human Microbiome
The Human Microbiome - Importance and Implications in Health and Food
With modern genomic techniques, it is now possible to determine the microbial composition of the gut, the skin or the airways based on sequencing of DNA. This have speared research into the role of these organisms on human health and we now know that a range of diseases - ranging from obesity over asthma to colorectal cancer - are closely linked with human microbiome imbalances (so-called dysbiosis). While these data carry new knowledge, they also possess a challenge and opportunity in what we can learn from these big and sometimes messy data.
This talk will circulate around both the new fundamental microbiological knowledge as well as how we can push the boundary forward on how to utilize these big “big data” and how such knowledge can be used to prevent or alleviate disease via human microbiome targeted interventions.
