The youth house is one more step towards making Kalundborg a vibrant student city
As Biotech City expands with job opportunities and higher education institutions move in, more young people will be drawn to the city. To keep them here, it is crucial to create a thriving youth environment. That’s why we are incredibly excited that a youth house in Kalundborg is soon becoming a reality, and that we get to be a part of making it happen.
Nanna Blume, Management Consultant at Helix Lab and project manager for the application to establish the upcoming youth house, believes this is the perfect moment to launch the initiative. The momentum is here:
"Kalundborg has been losing young people for many years, and as a result, youth activities have been deprioritized. But now we are in the middle of a huge transition with new educations on offer and a lot of students knocking on our door, so we need to start thinking about accommodating their needs.”
A Vision for a Better Kalundborg
In the steering committee, Nanna Blume will use her skills as an anthropologist and experience from working with Fellows at Helix Lab, where she and the rest of the team every semester work to integrate Fellows into the city through networks and a broad understanding of collaboration. So far, this has led to more than half of Helix Lab Alumni finding jobs in the city. Many of them have decided to stay, and Nanna Blume hopes this development will continue. Therefore, the youth house is also a vision for a better Kalundborg.
“At Helix Lab, we work to facilitate communities that strengthen students’ connection to the city. This project is a direct result of the collaborative culture we have in Kalundborg, where businesses, educational institutions, and the municipality come together to create something greater. Helix Lab has made this possible, and the result is a youth house in the heart of the city. We look forward to seeing the house create the environment where creativity and even broader communities can thrive.”
At Helix Lab, we believe the positive development will continue, and we’re really excited about collaborating with the main group, as well as the youth in Kalundborg, and we’re happy that the municipal council sees the potentials the youth house holds.
