Project title
Optimization of Cleaning in Place Processes for Membranes
Project Description
In many process systems, filter membranes are commonly used, the membranes are often part of a filtration unit, called a UF or UF/DF (ultrafiltration/ultrafiltration/diafiltration). In the industry and particular in the pharmaceutical industry, cleaning of membranes is a key requirements to ensure safety and hygiene standards. Cleaning of the membranes is typically done by a combination of base, acid, water, temperature and flow. The cleaning process is requiring significant resources, e.g. time, water, chemicals, therefore not only creating bottlenecks but also having a negative environmental impact. Solving this problem will provide fundamental insight into fouling and cleaning phenomena. This will increase process sustainability and improve overall CIP efficiencies.
